Simon Castillo alpaca knitted accessories - front 00

Simón Castillo Apaza

I was born in Puno, and I remember that my mother knitted with sticks and some people made to her very small orders for scarves and hats. Later, as in 1993, I began to be interested in knitting thanks to my uncle who had his knitting workshop, I watched him doing it and I liked it. Already in Lima, in 1995 I began to work in knitting, receiving individual training and sometimes from the same companies which I made its products for. At the beginning I did not have adequate infrastructure or sufficient staff, but with effort, little by little working, I managed to establish my current workshop in my own home.

Today, in my workshop I manufacture sweaters, hats, shawls, mittens, headbands, cotton dolls and others, I also have enough space to produce large orders, although I still lack modern and current tools.

I am currently training and taking courses, I have a wife and four children, they always watch what I do, they help me, and they like it, but I don’t know if they would follow in my footsteps in the future. On the other hand, I plan to continue training in knitting, learning new techniques, quality control and others.

Each company has its requirements and demands for the products that we produce and from each one we learn and thus improve in quality, design, methods, etc.

I would like there to be more demand and more export of my products, I know that more training is needed for the staff, but permanent work and greater continuity with orders is also necessary.
